1970 Peugeot 304 Cabriolet: The french icon you’ve never seen before

BHPian KPS recently shared this with other enthusiasts: P E U G E O T 3 0 4 Five versions were made – the saloon, the coupe, the cabriolet, the estate, and a van. The production of the Saloon/Coupe continued till 1979, and the estate till 1980 The dashing-looking cabriolet was produced from Mar 1970 till Jul 1975, and a total of 18,647 units were made, including the “S” type. In 1972, the ‘S’ version was introduced with a new dash with rev counter, new front grille and badge, new wheels, and headrests on the seats. The ‘S’ was also equipped with a new twin carb 75bhp 1.3 engine. The previous version which developed 65 bhp engines, was withdrawn in March 1972. (Source Wiki & History of 304) The Four-stroke SOHC 4-cylinder 1288 CC XL3/XL3S motor was transversely mounted. The Aluminum block with replaceable wetliners was the core of the engine. The gearbox was a four-speed manual with all forward ratios and synchromesh. A front-wheel drive car had disc brakes in front and drum brakes in the rear The car we will discover in this thread is an early Cabriolet, manufactured in August 1970. The car is Type 304 B01, meaning first generation (1970-72) and is the 2023rd chassis, out of the 18,647 cabriolets made. The body was made by CHAUSSON Company. I am unable to find the breakdown between 304 and 304S manufactured. The chassis number shows it was the 85210 chassis in the 304 series, where 1178423 cars were produced across all body styles from 1969 to 1980.
