Maruti Suzuki notched up more than 80,000 enquiries and handed over 25,000 cars on the opening day of Navratri when the GST 2.0 benefits came into effect
Every festive season brings a spike in car sales but this year the auto industry is running in overdrive. With GST 2.0 coming into play just as Navratri kicked off, demand has exploded in a way few could have predicted. For many dealers, the opening days of the season felt less like routine retail and more like a festival of deliveries.
It looks like phones were buzzing, enquiry logs were overflowing and customers were lining up for keys. On day one alone, the largest carmaker in the country notched up more than 80,000 enquiries and handed over 25,000 cars – numbers that would usually take weeks to accumulate. The early price cuts announced on September 18 only added fuel – knocking up to Rs 1.3 lakh off sticker prices across the portfolio.
Partho Banerjee, Head of Marketing & Sales at Maruti Suzuki, said: “The response from customers has been phenomenal—something we haven’t seen in the last 35 years. On the very first day, we recorded 80,000 enquiries, and have already delivered over 25,000 cars, with deliveries expected to touch 30,000 shortly.” Since the reductions, Maruti has already logged 75,000 bookings with around 15,000 more landing every single day.

It is the humble hatchback – long considered India’s people’s car – that has stolen the spotlight again. Bookings for entry-level models are up nearly 50 per cent proving that affordability still rules the market courtesy of the GST 2.0 price cuts. That said, SUVs like the Brezza and Grand Vitara continue to keep the cash registers ringing.
Hyundai reported around 11,000 dealer billings on the very first day of Navratri – its best single-day figure in half a decade. With the GST slab for small cars and SUVs cut from 28 per cent to 18 per cent, buyers are literally saving in lakhs for some models sparking enthusiasm in showrooms. Moreover, added benefits are cherry on top.

Looking ahead, we anticipate sustained festive demand and remain committed to delivering value and excitement to our customers”
It is apparent that both two- and four-wheeler industries are bracing for a record festive season as the GST 2.0 benefits, additional festive offers and positive buying sentiments amongst customers during this period of the year will help pump up volumes.
