The devastating floods in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, have left nearly 300 brand new Maruti Suzuki cars stranded and submerged underwater. The cars including popular models such as the Alto K10, Eeco, Grand Vitara, Baleno, Fronx, WagonR, Brezza and Invicto had been stocked by local showroom owners in anticipation of the festive season.
Instead of driving out to customers, these vehicles now lie damaged beyond repair after being trapped under water for several days. The flooding was the result of relentless monsoon rains that overwhelmed drainage systems and water bodies across Haryana. Overflowing rivers and canals breached their banks – leading to waterlogging in multiple districts.
Bahadurgarh, located in Jhajjar district, bore the brunt with industrial areas and residential colonies submerged under four to five feet of water. The Maruti Suzuki stockyard was one of the worst hit and watchmen reported car alarms going off in the dead of night as water seeped into hundreds of vehicles there.
Water levels rose so high that many cars had their engines completely submerged and in some cases, airbags even deployed due to water pressure. With the cars left underwater for days, experts believe the chances of salvaging them are slim. The financial blow is expected to be massive with early estimates running into crores of rupees.
For dealers who had invested heavily in stocking up ahead of the GST 2.0-driven festive boom, the loss is not just monetary but a major emotional setback too. The latest floods have created chaos across Haryana. The torrential downpour and overflowing drains disrupted normal life, shutting down roads, cutting power supply and damaging standing crops.
Industrial hubs in Bahadurgarh were brought to a halt as factories and warehouses remained inaccessible due to the high water levels. Daily wage workers and business owners alike have been struggling to recover from the sudden disaster. The Haryana government mobilised emergency services – deploying rescue teams and distributing relief materials in affected areas.
The floods expose how vulnerable vehicle stockyards and storage facilities are to extreme weather events. With close to 300 cars reduced to almost possibly scrap, authorities are staring at unprecedented losses while the state continues to grapple with agricultural and industrial setbacks.
