Have 55 lakhs to buy a used fast sedan: What options can I look at?

BHPian vjbox recently shared this with other enthusiasts: Hello all, I have been mulling over getting a fast sedan. The current garage with a V40 Cross country, a Kodiaq (2023) and a Tiago has been doing pretty well for mixed use and long distance touring. The Tiago has been a beater and is soon going to be replaced with a MG Comet for the city duties within Coimbatore ( we have moved to Coimbatore) that my wife would use. The V40 has a sentimental value within the family and my wife/ son dont want to part it. So I may end up keeping it for some more time. Its in its 8th year and has aged like a fine wine. I also know that I may not need a fast SUV as the Kodiaq seems to be good enough in this regard being both practical and performance oriented when needed. I have already extensively tried the likes of M340i, S5, Macan and such- while I would love to get them, their current pricing is inflated/ prohibitive and I don’t want to plonk 1 cr + on a car right now. I would love to own a Bimmer and with that mind what I am instead thinking is spending up to 50-55 Lacs on a good used model. I particularly steered towards the Bimmer line up- say, 530D, 630D, M340i. While these models are not often seen in the used market, its not hard to get hold of one either. For eg here is a 630D I saw on our forum classifieds – https://classifieds.team-bhp.com/buy…6-Series.html/. What can I do and what kind of options do I look at ? I am would appreciate some guidance in this regard. Here’s what BHPian GTO replied:55 lakhs is a lot of money for a pre-owned sedan as most of them suffer poor resale. One, luxury cars anyway fall hard in the used market. Second, the SUV & Crossover fascination in the market. Don’t go by online asking prices – they are always inflated and you will see that sedans move very slowly in the used market. Go test-drive, bargain in person, show your seriousness as a buyer and watch the price tumble. You should consider: – The 630d. Big, practical, fast – M340i. If you see a good one, move fast. – 530d. Evergreen, iconic. Fast, practical, looks & feels nicer than 630d IMHO. – I see a bunch of C300ds in Chennai. It’s a fabulous sedan – fast, fun to drive, great looking, tight. Downside = rear seat space & ground clearance. – On Carwale, other cars I am seeing that you should test-drive, and are a bit “different” Porsche Macan for 52 lakhs in Chennai Mini Coopers, only buy the S AMG A35 – ultimate pocket rocket Something special? An SLC AMG?Here’s what BHPian TurboMan replied:A performance sedan within 55 lakhs ? My first pick would be the G30 530d .Specifically the M-Sport trim. Extremely good looking, insanely quick 0-100 kmph , inline 6 diesel engine. There’s nothing really to complain. Even gives you mileage that you would never dream of,if you’d be picking up any used petrol performance sedan. And as a last hurrah to the love of diesel engines … I don’t think anybody would be regretting that purchase. Has been one of my holy grail cars for the longest time. My second suggestion would’ve been the M340i but I’m pretty sure that those goes for well above 55 nowadays. Another suggestion like GTO said would be the C300d. But for the engine fanatics out there like myself… that would be ‘just’ a 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine.. as compared to the 3.0 litre 6 cylinder in the 530.Here’s what BHPian ajmat replied:You might get some ideas from my hunt over here Again, my budget was Rs 45 Lakhs. Just remember used car prices are inflated and be suspicious. Take a wingman along! Here’s what BHPian omar replied:My recommendation based on pricing will be: 20-25: You can get a S60 polestar. The car really stands out and you have already had the Volvo experience. 30-35: If you want a fast car which is family friendly, and also VFM, I would recommend a VRS245. 35-40: Check the A35 AMG. It is quite fun to drive and has a good suspension setup. Only con is the very low ground clearance. 50-55: You can get a m340i in your budget, if you keep an eye out. Even a s5 can be purchased in the same price range. Another thing to note, a proper performance car be had just outside your budget. You can get a m2 or RS5 for around 60-70. Some thing to think aboutCheck out BHPian comments for more insights and information.
