My love towards driving and riding did not take long before the cycling bug bit me. With no prior experience in cycling except for riding a Hercules and a Hero Buzz in my childhood, I was taken aback by the price tags of these premium segment bikes. I watched a lot of videos to understand various things and had conversations with pro cyclists to get advice on how I should take my step. I planned to ride long distances and do coffee runs, so I decided I needed a road bike. But as I learned more, I liked what gravel bikes offered but considering the budget and how a newbie I am to cycling, I decided to start with road bikes. My budget was strictly set at 40k for two reasons. After much deliberation and analysis, I was considering buying a brand new Triban RC120. A good package in this segment and Decathlon’s after-sales service and support is a boon. Secondly, as intimidating few road bikes were in the used market, especially from Scott, I wanted to gradually get there and fit myself in here. One fine day, while surfing the used market, I stumbled upon an RC500 ridden less than 1000kms and still within warranty, within my budget. Grabbed the deal with zero hesitation. The owner himself was a pro cyclist. The owner and I met at Decathlon, where I booked a full service. The decathlon staff were very kind and helpful. Safe to say, unlike most car/bike dealers and their service network which could be a hit or a miss, at least Decathlon offers a standard service experience whenever and wherever.Top likes:Picks up speed quickly while being very comfortable.Shimano Sora works great and it feels smooth. The ride quality is brilliant. On day 01 with no prior experience, I took it out for a 30km ride and returned home already planning to hit my first 50km mark. The RC500 can take wider tires and I would love to turn it into a gravel bike, but that plan is far down the horizon; for now enjoying every ride on it.Except for the scorching sun, I have no gripes about going for a ride at any point of the day.
