BHPian Aurum recently shared this with other enthusiasts:BMW iX vs my 2018 Audi Q5I upgraded from a Jetta to the Q5. At that time, at least, the upgrade was noticeable. I guess Audi has moved slower than the segment below since. Even after driving the iX for a few months, when I go back to the Q5, I admire how good a car it is. Even in luxury terms, you dont really need much more than that. The space is right for a family of four, the sheer quality of the interior is fantastic, the power is more than adequate with a good ride, good audio quality. If there was an updated electric version of a similar size, that would have been perfect (the first Q6 etron, iX3 and GLC EV dont seem to be coming for a year at least). Having said that, the iX is an upgrade in pretty much every way, but more because of the electric shift than the segment shift. If you go back to my earlier post, every thing in the “What works” section is an upgrade. Space, because its a bespoke EV platform. You would feel this upgrade more than if it was an X5. Power – more than double the power of the Q5, and available in a torquey way impossible for a petrol Silence, in an way that only an electric can deliver. Sound, because of the silence and the way in which the sound system was part of the design brief which BMW and HK worked together on. Ride, because of the air suspension, and equally importantly, the way BMW tunes it. Driving experience, mostly due to the power delivery. The biggest day to day difference is in the infotainment system. From a wired small screen non-touchscreen experience from 2018 Q5, its a nice transition to a wireless large screen responsive touchscreen with HUD. Of which the ability to see Google Maps in the driver screen is the nicest touch. Check outBHPian commentsfor more insights and information.
