Prices of the new Victoris SUV start from Rs 10.50 lakh for the entry-level variant and go up to Rs 19.99 lakh. The petrol-manual variants are available within the price range of Rs 10.50 lakh – Rs 15.82 lakh, while the petrol-automatic variants cost between Rs 13.36 lakh – Rs 17.77 lakh. The petrol-AT AWD ZX+ and ZX+ (O) variants are priced at Rs 18.64 lakh and Rs 19.22 lakh, respectively. The Victoris hybrid variants are offered in the price range of Rs 16.38 lakh – Rs 19.99 lakh, while the CNG variants are priced from Rs 11.50 lakh to Rs 14.57 lakh.

The Hyundai Creta petrol-manual variants come within the price range of Rs 10.72 lakh – Rs 16.86 lakh, while the petrol-automatic combo is priced between Rs 13.87 lakh – Rs 18.27 lakh. The petrol-DCT AWD variant costs Rs 19.50 lakh. The Creta diesel manual and automatic variants are currently available in the price range of Rs 12.24 lakh – Rs 18.39 lakh and Rs 15.41 lakh – Rs 19.31 lakh, respectively.

Verdict: The Victoris doesn’t offer a diesel engine, while the Creta misses out on the hybrid and CNG powertrains. All engine-gearbox combos of the Victoris are relatively more affordable than the Creta. Being the most affordable SUV in the segment, the Maruti Victoris makes a great choice for budget conscious buyers.

The new Victoris is available with three engine options – a 103bhp, 1.5L petrol, 116bhp, 1.5L strong hybrid and 89bhp petrol-CNG. The petrol version (boosted with a mild hybrid tech) offers a fuel efficiency of 21.18kmpl with a manual and 21.06kmpl with an automatic gearbox. The Victoris hybrid is India’s most fuel-efficient car, offering a mileage of 28.65kmpl. Buyers will get a fuel economy of 27.02km/kg with its CNG variant.

The Hyundai Creta, on the other hand, is offered with two petrol engines (115bhp, 1.5L and 160bhp 1.5L turbocharged) and a diesel (116bhp, 1.5L) motor. The NA petrol variants offer a claimed mileage of 17.4kmpl (MT) and 17.7kmpl (iVT), while the turbo-petrol DCT delivers a fuel efficiency of 18.4kmpl. The Creta diesel with manual and automatic gearboxes delivers a mileage of 21.8kmpl and 19.1kmpl, respectively.

Verdict: If mileage is on your top priorty, the Victoris is undoubtedly the better option. Its strong hybrid and CNG versions are significantly more frugal than Creta diesel. In fact, the Victoris petrol model offers higher fuel efficiency than the Creta petrol.

The Victoris offers several safety and tech features from the base variant including a 7-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity, push button start/stop, automatic climate control, 6 airbags, brake assist with ABS, tyre repair kit and all 3-point seatbelt.
