Route update for NH66 after my Mumbai – Ganpatipule – Marleshwar trip

BHPian N1Krider_R recently shared this with other enthusiasts:Route used:Dahisar – SCLR – Atal Setu – JNPT – Sangmeshwar – Niwai – Ganpatipule – Niwali – Devrukh – Marleshwar Khadikolvan – Devrukh – Niwali – Sangmeshwar – Jnpt – Atal setu – SCLR – Dahisar 1. SCLR Vakola bridge is completed so saves 30 mins easily now as it bypasses the traffic signals 2. Atal setu exit is the best option even if it takes more kms or time – The more RoutO I use, the more we understand strategy of bypassing clogged highways, towns, cities. Else the gmaps would just take you through clogged towns and narrow arterial roads showing shortest route, which doesn’t save time. Post Atal-Setu the Gmaps will suggest you to take Chirner route, avoid it as it is a truck/trailer route with no hotels, pumps or facilities – especially at night or travelling with family 3. PANTREE near Pen, VISAWA near Mahad, RIVERVIEW at Parshuram Ghat and DRIVE INN at Sangmeshwar are our must halt stops as these places have clean and hygienic washrooms. The food and service is fast and quick. A little on the expensive side, since these are maintained well. (also because we have parents and grandparents travelling – these halts make sense) 4. Onwards journey we got stuck for half an hour at Mangao and 15 mins at Indapur. However, while returning it was 9.30 pm, so was a breeze through no traffic. I think, to tackle these stretch you need to leave Mumbai early 5 am and while returning time it such that you cross Mangao post 9 pm when markets close. 5. For Ganpatipule – there is an exit from NH66 just after DRIVE INN/ HP petrol pump, i.e. before Sangameshwar. It’s a narrow route, best avoided in Monsoon I believe. Gmaps will show you that, it is 15-20 kms only – if you can manage it, you save 1 hour easily. 6. While returning from Devrukh you get 2 options to hit Sangameshwar. A- Direct Sangameshwar bus depot, preferred by many travellers as it shows up on Gmaps as time saver – 18kms only. B – Via Niwali, RouteO – absolute bliss to drive on , proper tarmac, corners twisties, chicanes. 32kms. However, you have to tackle bad roads and traffic as you reach Sangmeshwar since road works are going on for a couple of kms. 7. Last – Beware of unmarked speed breakers, diversions, and washed out tarmac after all the flyovers and bridges. It took 9 hours with breaks for us to cover the distance both ways. The highway is in a much better shape to drive now, can keep triple digit speeds in multiple sections and the usual Pune-Satara can be avoided.
