Tata posted 41,001 units in August 2025 as against 44,142 units with a YoY sales drop of 7 per cent in India
Tata Motors clocked a domestic sales tally of 41,001 units last month – down 7 per cent year-on-year compared to the 44,142 units sold during the same month in 2024. However, on a month-on-month basis, sales registered a modest 4 per cent growth with July 2025’s tally standing at 39,521 units as some models showed healthy growth while others witnessed a notable decline.
The Nexon continued to be Tata’s star performer – leading the sales chart with 14,004 units. It marked a 14 per cent YoY growth and a 9 per cent MoM increase. The consistent demand highlights Nexon’s good reception in the competitive compact SUV space. On the other end, the Punch faced a sharp decline – selling a total of 10,704 units in August 2025.
The figure translated into a 32 per cent YoY drop compared to August 2024’s total of 15,643 units although the MoM decline was relatively minor at 1 per cent. The drop in demand could be attributed to intensifying competition in the entry-level SUV space. Among Tata’s hatchbacks, the Tiago and Altroz presented a contrasting story.

The Tiago posted 11 per cent YoY growth – reaching 5,250 units though it slipped by 6 percent on a MoM basis. The Altroz, meanwhile, registered an impressive 31 per cent YoY increase with 3,959 units sold and stayed nearly flat MoM with a marginal 1 per cent gain. The Tigor sedan and the Curvv struggled during the month.
The compact sedan dropped 30 per cent YoY to 805 units and saw a further 17 per cent MoM decline while the Curvv recorded a steep 51 per cent YoY drop – moving just 1,703 units in total. Compared to July 2025, it also slipped by 15 per cent – showing that the coupe SUV has yet to find stable traction in the market.

In contrast, Tata’s larger SUVs delivered decent results. The Harrier emerged as the biggest gainer with 63 per cent YoY growth – selling 3,087 units against 1,892 a year ago. It also gained 39 per cent MoM. The Safari followed with 1,489 units as the numbers were down 24 per cent YoY but interestingly, sales jumped 20 per cent MoM.
While Tata Motor’s August sales were down compared to last year, the positive MoM growth points the finger that the brand could be regaining momentum. With GST 2.0 related price drops and positive buying sentiments during the festive season, we expect its sales performance to improve in the coming months.
