In the top 10 midsize SUVs for August 2025, Hyundai Creta sat on top ahead of Mahindra Scorpio, Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara

The midsize SUV space remains one of the most hotly contested categories in India and August 2025 sales numbers show just how significant the segment continues to be. With some models posting strong growth and others slipping year-on-year, the competition for the top spots is only intensifying as we move into the festive months.

Topping the charts once again was the Hyundai Creta with 15,924 units sold last month – though it marked a 5 per cent decline compared to August 2024 when it registered 16,762 units. Despite the dip, the Creta continues to maintain its dominance as the best-selling midsize SUV in the country – a position it has held consistently for several years.

The second position went to Mahindra’s Scorpio, which saw 9,840 dispatches in August 2025. However, the model recorded a sharp 29 per cent decline compared to the 13,787 units it sold during the same period last year. The Scorpio endured a tough month despite finishing runner-up but a revival in sales can be expected this festive season.

The Toyota Hyryder came in third again posting a healthy 39 per cent year-on-year increase. Sales rose to 9,100 units compared to 6,534 in August 2024. The strong hybrid option continues to play a key role in driving demand for the Hyryder – especially at a time when hybrid powertrains are gaining popularity.

The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara slipped to fourth place with 5,743 units – down 36 per cent from the 9,021 units it sold a year ago. Similarly, Mahindra’s XUV700 experienced an even steeper fall, dropping 45 per cent on a year-on-year basis. From 9,007 units in August 2024, the SUV managed just 4,956 in the latest tally. The facelifted model is expected to arrive early next year.

Tata, meanwhile, had a roller coaster of a month with the Harrier surging by 63 per cent to 3,087 units while the Curvv dropped 51 per cent to 1,703 units. The Curvv’s momentum has slowed after its decent initial response.

The bottom two spots were taken by the Honda Elevate and the Tata Safari. The Elevate registered 1,660 units – down 4 per cent from last year while the Safari declined 24 per cent to 1,489 units. The arrival of the Maruti Suzuki Victoris could shake up the pecking order big time!
