Audi India has announced new prices across its domestic portfolio following the GST 2.0 revision – with cuts ranging between Rs. 2.64 lakh and Rs. 7.83 lakh. By passing on the entire benefit to customers, the Ingolstadt-based brand has positioned its luxury sedans and SUVs more competitively in a market that is set to see a huge demand this festive season.

Among the models, the Audi Q8 registers the highest benefits – dropping by Rs. 7.83 lakh to a new price of Rs. 1.09 crore. The popular Q7 follows with a reduction of Rs. 6.15 lakh while the Q5 is now cheaper by Rs. 4.55 lakh. The sizeable revisions should help consolidate Audi’s SUV range which remains the backbone of its Indian fleet.

On the sedan front, the A6 now starts at Rs. 63.74 lakh after a cut of Rs. 3.64 lakh while the entry-level A4 sees a reduction of Rs. 2.64 lakh – bringing it down to Rs. 46.25 lakh. The compact Q3 luxury SUV, meanwhile, now carries a sticker tag of Rs. 43.07 lakh – courtesy of a price revision of Rs. 3.07 lakh in India.

The price revision is expected to increase Audi’s value proposition in a highly competitive luxury space. With GST 2.0 bringing significant relief for vehicles under 4,000 mm and up to 1,500 cc, luxury brands are also triggering changes to their strategies to take advantage of the favourable tax regime which will come into effect soon.

GST 2.0 has overhauled the way premium and luxury cars are taxed in India – introducing a single 40 per cent GST rate for vehicles longer than four metres or with engines above 1,500cc. On paper, this looks steeper than the earlier 28 per cent slab but the real game changer is the removal of the compensation cess which earlier went as high as 22 per cent.

The total tax burden is now lower, leading to price cuts for luxury sedans and SUVs by as much as 8 to 10 per cent with carmakers already transferring these gains to customers. Cars from luxury marques like Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz and more which once attracted effective taxes of up to 50 per cent are now standardised under the 40 per cent bracket.

That said, fully imported CBUs and CKDs remain costly due to high import duties. Still, with Mercedes and Audi leading with price cuts, GST 2.0 is set to add new momentum to the luxury car market in India.
